Red Cross Offers Help to 3 Families Displaced by Fire

The Red Cross says it's helping three Providence families who were displaced by a fire in the city's Silver Lake neighborhood.

The fire broke out Saturday morning in a three-floor apartment building on Union Avenue and caused heavy damage before firefighters extinguished it.

A statement from the Red Cross says 13 people were affected by the fire, including eight adults and five children.

The charity says it's helping the families with their immediate needs and will work with them to develop a long-term plan for recovery.

WJAR-TV reports that no injuries were reported in the fire and that the cause remains under investigation.
