Suspect in Teacher Killing Heading to Trial

Jury selection has begun in the trial of a Waterford, Vermont, man charged along with his wife with luring a St. Johnsbury teacher from her home and killing her in 2012, a crime that shook the northeastern community where the victim lived and taught.

Jury selection in the trial of Allen Prue began Monday in Chittenden Superior Court in Burlington, with opening statements expected Wednesday.

Prue faces kidnapping and first-degree murder charges in the death of 33-year-old Melissa Jenkins. He has pleaded not guilty.

Police allege he and his wife, Patricia, lured Jenkins from her home with a ruse about a broken down car, then killed her and dumped her naked body in the Connecticut River.

Patricia Prue intends to use an insanity defense at her upcoming trial.
