Police: Vermont Woman Stabbed to Death by Partner

Police say a 58-year-old Vermont woman is dead after she was stabbed in the neck by a romantic partner.

Springfield Police say Betty Rodriguez was pronounced dead Monday afternoon at the Springfield Hospital. The stabbing happened at 1:45 p.m.

Police Chief Douglas Johnston says 54-year-old Arnaldo Cruz, of Springfield, was arrested without incident a short time later near the apartment building where the stabbing took place.

Johnston says Cruz is due to be arraigned Tuesday in White River Junction on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault. It could not immediately be determined if Cruz has an attorney.

The stabbing prompted police to ask the nearby Union Street School, one of Springfield's two elementary schools, to "shelter in place."
