A Rutland couple is planning to turn a former marble quarry into a concert pavilion.
The Rutland Herald reports that Frank and Karen Beyette are planning to turn the former quarry into a pavilion with seating for nearly 800 people. The couple was inspired by the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.
The current plan will have the pavilion jut out over the quarry's water with a removable wall that will expose the marble rock face.
The quarry sits across the street from the couple's restaurant. Beyette said he hopes to finalize permitting in the fall and begin construction next spring with the hopes of opening the pavilion next summer.
