Grand Prairie police arrest 59-year-old William Waters (inset), who they say robbed a Grand Prairie bank with a package he claimed was a bomb Wednesday morning.

Police said they arrested a 59-year-old man who robbed a North Texas bank with a package he claimed was a bomb Wednesday morning, then brought the money back and surrendered.

Grand Prairie police said the man — later identified as William Waters — walked into the Chase Bank in the 700 block of East Main Street at 9:30 a.m. and gave the teller a note demanding money.

In the note, police said Waters wrote he had a bomb and placed a package on the ledge.

Authorities said the teller gave Waters an undisclosed amount of cash. Waters then left the building and drove away in a truck, leaving the package on the ledge.

Fewer than 10 customers were inside the bank at the time of the robbery.

After police arrived at the bank, Waters returned and surrendered. Police said he admitted the money he took was in his truck.

It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney who could answer to the claims.

Police sent a robot and bomb-sniffing dogs to investigate the package, but there was no bomb.
