Fire Officials Respond to Hazmat Situation at Boston University Building

The Boston Fire Department responded to a hazmat situation for report of an unknown chemical at a Boston University building on Saturday.

Boston fire officials say the Level 3 incident occurred at the Boston University Life Science and Engineering building at 34 Cummington Mall.

The Boston Fire Department's hazardous materials team was called in to investigate.

Authorities say a person mixed chemicals under a hood, and some chemicals spilled on the person. He was decontaminated by Boston fire and taken to an area hospital. The person's condition was not immediately available.

The building was deemed safe after a hazmat team searched the floor and sealed the room.

The BFD hazmat tech will remain on scene with the BU Health and Safety Division to decontaminate the area where the incident occurred.

Fire officials turned the building back over to Boston University police, who controlled traffic during the incident.
