Humidity returned overnight, with patchy dense fog appearing once again this morning. A front is approaching from the west, that’ll bring gusty wind and breaks of sunshine today, with scattered afternoon thunderstorms.
Some of the storms may be strong to severe with locally damaging winds. High temperature will be in the 80s, with wind from the south gusting past 30 miles per hour near the shore. The front will push south of New England tonight, with slow drying and clearing, low temperature in the 60s south, 50s north. High-pressure moves in behind the front for a nice day tomorrow, plenty of sunshine with lower humidity and high temperature in the 70s.
Hurricane Dorian continues its slow move away from the Bahamas paralleling the southeastern United States coast from east of Florida to east of Georgia today. Heavy squalls and push the shore along with the storm surge causing some damage along the coastline especially from Cape Canaveral and points north.
Dorian will be passing very close to the coast of South Carolina and North Carolina tomorrow and tomorrow night, and then be over the open water south of New England by Friday. Clouds from Dorian may enter our skies Friday afternoon, with rain getting close. Overall, it looks like an OK day Friday with showers possible late and high temperature in the 70s. Depending on the track of Dorian, we may get some rain and wind, but we are not expecting a damaging storm.
The current estimate is for Dorian to miss Nantucket by more than 200 miles to the south as it races by, toward the east-northeast Friday night and early Saturday morning. We will have a powerful ocean swell of 10 to 15 feet along the south coast early Saturday. But a little wobble toward the north and we get the impact of a moderate nor’easter in southeastern New England.
If we get any impact from rain and wind, most of the action should be Friday night into the early parts of Saturday, followed by clearing in cooler. But there is a weak front that’s stranded here, so we have to keep the chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the forecast for Saturday, high temperature in the 70s
