A white woman who reportedly hurled racial slurs toward a Haitan-American woman at a Market Basket in Brockton earlier this month has been identified.
The Brockton Enterprise reports 65-year-old Easton resident Gloria F. Downey has been charged in connection with the incident that happened on Feb. 1.
The victim, 58-year-old Lola Jean-Baptiste, told the Enterprise said that Downey used racial slurs against her, vandalized her car, and hit her with a shopping cart.
"She said, 'You don't belong here, go back to Africa where you come from," Jean-Baptiste told the Enterprise.
Downey will appear before a judge on March 6 in Brockton District Court on charges of a civil rights violation and malicious damage to a motor vehicle, as well as assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
It's unclear if Downey has an attorney.
