Police in West Texas have arrested a woman recorded on surveillance video stealing a ring from a corpse at a funeral home, police say.

Kalynn Homfeld, 41, has been charged with theft from a human corpse, a state jail felony, after Odessa police said she slipped a ring valued at $10 off a deceased woman at the Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.

Police on Monday released security video of the woman seen entering a viewing room at the funeral home, reaching into an open casket and fumbling to remove something from the female corpse.

The woman late Friday afternoon spent more than a minute alone in the viewing room as she reaches into the lower part of the open casket and takes something, according to the video.

The woman then walks out of the room and drives off.

The theft was discovered Saturday.

Online Ector County jail records didn't yet list custody or attorney information for Homfeld.
