If you thought selfies were safe, think again.
You’re more likely to die snapping a selfie than in a shark attack, according to an analysis by Mashable.
So far this year, eight people have died as a result of shark attacks, but 12 have died taking selfies.
A plurality of the selfie-related deaths were caused by falls, most recently when 66-year-old Japanese tourist Hideto Ueda fell down stairs as he attempted to photograph himself at the Taj Mahal.
The second most common cause of selfie deaths? Getting hit by a train: either because the deceased was trying to take a photo with a train or because the photo involved getting on dangerous equipment.
