The state Department of Environmental Protection says a puncture in the tank of a train car caused about 2,400 gallons of diesel fuel to spill along a section of tracks in Massachusetts.
The Sun reports Ayer firefighters were called to the area in Devens around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
DEP director of public affairs Ed Coletta says a Pan Am Railways locomotive was traveling behind a large warehouse when the incident occurred.
Coletta says there was no threatened surface water or wetlands near the spill. He says mostly the tracks and the soil around them were affected.
He says Pan Am hired a contractor to clean the spill. A spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
No injuries were reported.
It wasn't immediately clear what caused the puncture.
