Boston Mayor Marty Walsh's Growing Campaign War Chest Fuels Rumors About His Future Plans

Despite having just been sworn in for a second term as Boston's chief executive early last week, Mayor Marty Walsh reportedly is already adding money to his campaign war chest.

According to state campaign finance filings obtained by Politico, Walsh netted $105,000 in the month of December alone.

On Wednesday, he held a fundraiser at Yellow Door Taqueria in Dorchester with the Dropkick Murphys' Ken Casey. The event was Walsh's fifth fundraiser since Election Day.

An insider at City Hall told Politico that it is "unprecedented" for a Boston mayor to rake in so much money at such a fast rate.

Rumors about Walsh's post-mayoral plans are now swirling. Those rumors include a potential future run for Massachusetts governor, Congress or U.S. Senate.

Walsh's campaign has downplayed the fundraising activities.
