Jeremy Warnick of the Cambridge Police Department said officials are continuing their search.

"It's possible that there's a mental illness component to this. We don’t know this definitively, involving the suspect," he said.

A photo taken by a witness shows the unidentified man running toward Central Square.

"Having people that are vigilant about taking pictures, taking videos and helping people out is always to hear about," said Cambridge resident Ben Tanen. "Hopefully that evidence is helpful to those who need it."

The man is described as being in his late 20s and was seen wearing a multi-colored hat, green shirt, khaki shorts and brown backpack at the time of the assault.

Anyone with information on the attack is encouraged to call Cambridge Police at 617-349-3300.
