Chelmsford Man Faces Seventh Operating Under the Influence Charge

Police charged a Chelmsford man with drunken driving charge for the seventh time after his vehicle struck a mailbox and utility pole in town.

Francis Harrison, 59, of Chelmsford, was arrested at 9:57 a.m. Friday and charged with seventh-offense operating under the influence, driving negligently so as to endanger and additional traffic-related charges.

A Chelmsford patrolman came upon Harrison's 1980 red Chevrolet Corvette, which had struck a mailbox and utility pole, according to a news release from Chelmsford Police Chief James M. Spinney. The utility pole was snapped at its base and the vehicle sustained heavy damage.

Harrison was driving intoxicated and his license was confiscated, police said. Police notified the Registry of Motor Vehicles, which has suspended his license.
