Child Burned on Cape Cod

A 7-year-old child was injured after falling into a fire pit at a Cape Cod resort Friday night, officials said.

The male child reportedly suffered second- and third-degree burns at the outside fire pit at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa on Route 132, according to a police press release. The child burned both arms when he fell into the fire, police said.

Officials say the child sustained burn injuries and was taken by ambulance to Boston Children's Hospital. Rescue workers initially called for a helicopter to transport the child but the chopper was grounded due to inclement weather.

The Cape Codder's website advertises roasting marshmallows over a bonfire as an amenity offered by the hotel.

The cause of the fall remains under investigation, police said.
