Construction Workers Charged in Assault and Cover-up

Two construction workers are accused of assaulting a co-worker at a job site, then covering it up.

Two Massachusetts construction workers appeared in court on Wednesday to face charges related to accusations they seriously injured a co-worker, then tried to cover it up.

Kevin Medeiros, of Berkeley, was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of aggravated assault and battery, witness intimidation, and tampering with evidence.

His co-defendant, Jean Rock Beaulieu, of Salem, New Hampshire, was arraigned on charges of accessory after the fact to aggravated assault and battery and witness intimidation.

In December, a Suffolk County grand jury returned the indictments against the men in connection with a May 8 assault that left a 57-year-old co-worker with a traumatic brain injury.

Investigators say Medeiros was working as the nighttime site supervisor at a Copley Place construction site when he and his coworker — who appeared to be drunk — began arguing.

Medeiros allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall backward and strike his head on concrete.

Beaulieu, also a supervisor, allegedly helped Medeiros move the victim and they told another worker the victim slipped and fell, according to prosecutors.

Investigators say a security camera caught the alleged cover up.

Prosecutors say the victim was in a coma for five days following the assault.

Both men left court on Wednesday with their attorney and didn't comment on the charges.
