A man was killed in one shooting and four others were injured in another shooting on the Fourth of July in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, according to police.

Around 10 p.m., a man in his 30s was found with a gunshot wound to his head near Brookford and Dacia streets, according to police. The victim, later identified as Deondra Lee, 36, of Dorchester, was taken to the hospital, where he died.

At 7 p.m. the same evening, police responded to a call of multiple people shot near the area of 85 Fayston St. There, they found four men shot.

According to Boston Police Commissioner William Evans, an argument broke out at a house on Fayston Street, which eventually spilled onto Maywood Street. There was a party going on when words were exchanged and then shots were fired.

The shooting occurred just yards from another party, where dozens of children were outside.

"What's real frustrating to me is we had, close by, one of those bouncy things where we probably had 25 kids jumping up and down... which, it's fortunate, we didn't have any young kids hit by the crossfire," Evans said.

Police say they do not believe the incident was gang-related, but they are not receiving much cooperation from the people who were at the scene.

Police say they found three different calibers of guns at the scene.

Three of the men have non-life threatening injuries and one man suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police. The victims' ages range from 22-years-old to late 40s.

Police are actively investigating Lee's death and ask anyone with information to contact Boston police homicide detectives at 617-343-4470.
