Local Protest Planned in Solidarity With Baltimore

Demonstrators in Providence, Rhode Island, are set to march in solidarity with Baltimore on Saturday afternoon.

Protesters are preparing for a march in Providence, Rhode Island, on Saturday afternoon.

According to necn affiliate WJAR, the demonstrators will protest police-community relations in the wake of Freddie Gray's death while in police custody in Baltimore. His death sparked riots in the city and nationwide protests.

The march will be in solidarity with Baltimore, but protest spokesperson Marco McWilliams says there's a broader message. Protesters are calling for the charges against those involved in the Baltimore riots to be dropped, arguing that police oppression is more important.

Providence and Rhode Island Police are aware of the protest. It's set to begin at Central High School at 3 p.m.
