A man who went on a violent rampage at a Worcester, Massachusetts, grocery store has died after police used a Taser while trying to subdue him.

Police say they responded to the Pennywise Market just after noon on Wednesday for reports of a man "tearing up the store."

Employees told officers the man, who was identified as Wilmer Delgado-Soba, 38, of Fitchburg, walked in and began to destroy items on display.

Officials say Delgado-Soba smashed glass, lifted a cart over his head and slammed it, and took his shorts off in an attempt to pour laundry detergent on them.

When police told the man he had to leave, he became violent, charging at officers. Police deployed a Taser, which at first had no effect on Delgado-Soba.

When he was put on a stretcher, he fought with emergency medical technicians. He was taken to a city hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The cause of this death is unknown.

No employees were hurt in the incident.

    The case remains under investigation.
