A teacher at Melrose High School has been placed on administrative leave while officials conduct an investigation into alleged "inappropriate behavior."

The teacher's name was not released by the school district, nor were any details about the allegations.

Melrose Superintendent of Schools Cyndy Taymore said the faculty member has been employed by the district for about 14 years.

The school district said its investigation stems from concerns raised about alleged inappropriate behavior that occurred outside of the school and not during work hours.

"As a public school district focused at all times on providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students, we take any allegations of inappropriate behavior seriously," Taymore said in a statement. "We are releasing this information in the interests of transparency, but please understand that there are certain things we legally cannot say publicly at this time. However, I can report that the investigation has confirmed that no current students are involved."

The school district said it has notified Melrose police, who advised them that this is an administrative matter that does not involve criminal activity.

    No further information was released.
