Police in Middleborough, Massachusetts, say the story of a woman who told them a man tried to abduct her and force her into his van on Monday afternoon turned out to be untrue.
Authorities said they received a call around 12:45 p.m. from a woman who said that a man had attempted to abduct her on Clay Street.
The woman, a 27-year-old Middleborough resident, told police she was walking down the street when a man driving a rust-colored utility van drove up and asked her for directions.
The man eventually got out of the van and walked up behind the woman and grabbed her by the face and began pulling her toward his van. The woman said she was able to free herself and flee. She ran into the woods and called police.
The woman said the man then fled the area in an unknown direction.
The victim said the attacker was in his 40s or 50s, with light-colored facial hair. He was wearing a backward baseball cap and sunglasses.
After an investigation, police determined that the alleged abduction did not occur.
The incident remains under investigation.
It's unclear if the woman will face any charges.
