MAYOR

Petition Demands Increased Safety at Medford Intersection

An online petition has been started in Medford asking for changes to what is being called a very dangerous intersection.

In a petition addressed to mayor Stephanie Burke on Change.org, residents are asking for increased safety at Main Street and South Street.

According to the petition, people are calling it a high-volume traffic area that "has been left with poor signaling."

The petition claims that construction on the nearby Craddock Bridge has caused the traffic pattern to become dangerous. Drivers on South Street that are approaching Main Street have to stop at a sign and blinking red light before they can turn left, right or remain straight.

Video attached to the Change.org petitions depicts that drivers going northbound on Main Street are presented with a yellow blinking light while southbound drivers are given a non-functional traffic light.

Petitioners say this current traffic pattern encourages drivers to cut-off cross traffic.

They also say the current pattern does not provide pedestrians or bikers any form of visibility or priority.
