Possible damaging thunderstorms are moving from west to east Tuesday into the late night. Rainfall amounts may exceed 1 to 2 inches in a short period of time, with localized flash flooding possible. Individual thunderstorms may generate wind gusts past 55 mph, with spotty damage possible.

Earlier Tuesday, a tornado warning was in effect in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The National Weather Service will be conducting surveys Wednesday.

Overnight showers and areas of fog – along with muggy air in Southern New England – will all be swept away by early Wednesday morning as drier air takes hold, allowing for some sun and highs around 70.

Thursday should be even milder – well into the 70s – before a cold front swings through New England, delivering cool and dry weekend air in conjunction with a large area of Canadian high-pressure building overhead.

Even as the fair weather dome moves east of us early next week, it will still be expanding and strengthening, meaning fair weather should continue into midweek in our exclusive Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast.
