Two Men Convicted of Murder in 2015 New Year's Eve Shooting

Two New Bedford men have been convicted of murder for shooting a man on New Year's Eve in 2015.

Prosecutors say 25-year-old Aaron Bookman and 26-year-old Angel Acevedo fatally shot Aaron Gant Jr. in a retaliatory gang killing. They were sentenced Thursday to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

The Standard-Times reports Gant was shot in the back of the head on Dec. 31, 2015, as he rode in a car in New Bedford.

Investigators say surveillance video shows Bookman and Acevedo riding in a car as they searched the city for their target.

An attorney for Acevedo argued there was no evidence that the men planned to kill Gant. Bookman's attorney says the video doesn't clearly show whether Bookman was in the car at the time of the shooting.
