Woman May Have Been Target of Murder for Hire Plot

(NECN: Brad Puffer, Pembroke, Mass.) - A Massachusetts father dials 911 after his daughter is attacked in her own driveway. The 911 tape was released today from a shooting Tuesday night in Pembroke, Massachusetts.

More is being learned about the victim, Mary Beth Banks, who is still fighting for her life and more about two suspects now under arrest.

It's the frantic call from a father, finding his daughter shot. The suspect allegedly hired to kill her. Now we are learning 25-year-old Dorian Membreno had been previously charged with murder in Bridgeport, CT, allegedly confessed, but was acquitted in 2006.

Douglas Banks: "It's just ridiculous."

It's news that outrages her boss at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. The dance instructor had worked here for more than a year, moving home from Connecticut in 2008 and away from her ex-boyfriend.

Douglas Banks: "She printed out a picture and said if you see this guy in the studio call the police but we never saw him."

Douglas Banks, Who is not related, says that boyfriend allegedly assaulted her before. And that she had been fearful, especially as a court date was approaching.

Douglas Banks: "She was a little bit nervous here at night because she'd get this phone calls, hang-ups, and she was just paranoid about the boyfriend."

NECN has learned that ex-boyfriend is Anthony DeJoseph, now being held in Connecticut on other charges. Police are investigating whether he hired Mombreno. Last March - DeJoseph was charged with assaulting Banks in Wolcott, Connecticut. A year and one day after that incident, neighbors say they saw a man lurking outside Banks' Pembroke home.

Jamie Leonard: I did see the red Jetta with the Shaws bags on the license plate and I thought that was very odd. And then I did see the man walking up and down the street."

Now neighbors are just hoping Mary Beth pulls through, but wish that somehow this could have been prevented.

Jamie Leonard: "Someone called the cops because I did see the cops patrolling during the day but then I don't know at night he must have just been waiting for her I guess."

While DeJoseph is not charged in connection with this week's shooting, he is being held on 2.5 million dollars bond. That's because police found him in possession of several firearms, a violation of a protective order put in place after last year's alleged assault.
