In Cianci Race, GOP Opponent Donates to Democrat

Dan Harrop donated $1,000 to Jorge Elorza

The race for mayor of Providence, Rhode Island, already features twice-convicted felon Buddy Cianci making a comeback bid for a seventh term as an independent.

Now, it's gotten even more unusual.

The Republican candidate has given a $1,000 donation to the Democratic candidate.

Dan Harrop says he donated the maximum allowed under state law to Jorge Elorza about 10 days ago. He says he wanted to help Elorza get his message out before the Nov. 4 election.

Harrop acknowledges he's not going to win. He said on Monday he hasn't decided yet who he's voting for. But he says he won't drop out.

Cianci calls Harrop a nuisance and said he and Elorza are colluding to go after him. Harrop denies that.al.
