Record Warm Christmas Day

A gray start in Boston where 59 degrees missed the record of 65 set Christmas Day 1889.

    Clear the Air

A gray start in Boston where 59 degrees missed the record of 65 set Christmas Day 1889.

But other parts of New England did set records. Even the top of Mount Washington hit 44, breaking the record of 42 from 1982. Last evening Providence RI set a record of 64 for Dec 24, also Blue Hill set a record of 61 for yesterday.

Strong low pressure passing to our north is pulling warmth from Florida to New England. Record highs were achieved before sunrise when the temperature warmed to 60-66 in southern New England. In northern New England we had a cold inversion with dense fog and temperatures stuck in the 30s. Fresh west wind is cooling the south, and warming the north. The temperature is balancing out near 53 with rain ending west to east through early afternoon. Wind from the west is gusting past 40 mph as the storm pulls away. Rainfall of an inch or less for most has not caused any flooding problems. A flood watch remains in effect for northern New England as rivers continue to rise through tomorrow.

High pressure passing to our south the few days means most sunny and mild air, with a high near 50 Friday and Saturday. A cold front Sunday morning brings a few rain or snow showers and a return to seasonable weather, high near 40 Sunday. Low pressure on that front passes south of New England Monday brings clouds and a chance of snow or rain in southern New England with a high in the 30s. Next week will turn much colder with chances for snow and/or rain Wednesday and Saturday.
