Training exercises are underway at the Massachusetts Firefighter Academy in Stow, Massachusetts.
Chris Rizza, the officer of the day, joined us for more on the ladder climbing drill.
He said that the trainings help the firefighters improve climbing stability and communication.
Rizza said that firefighters are trained to lock their heels into the rungs of the ladder to prevent them from slipping.
Over time, additional elements are added to the training exercises, including the use of hand tools.
