Lizzie Borden Gravesite Defaced With Graffiti

Monument in Fall River, Mass. marks burial site of Borden family

The final resting place of Lizzie Borden, the father and stepmother she was acquitted of killing, and her sister, has been vandalized.

The director of Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River, Massachusetts, says the monument that marks the burial site of the Borden family was defaced with black and green paint.

Tony Eaton tells The Herald News the vandalism likely occurred Sunday night. It's not the first time it has happened, but it irks him anytime a grave site in vandalized. Police have been notified.

Eaton said the graffiti may be related to increased fascination with Lizzie Borden due to the Lifetime miniseries "The Lizzie Borden Chronicles."

Lizzie Borden was charged with the ax killings of her father and stepmother in 1892. Although she was acquitted, her innocence is questioned even today.
