(NECN) - Shortly after their first round pick, Patriots coach Bill Belichick commented on the selection of Tennessee linebacker Jerod Mayo. Belichick is confident that he will be a good addition to both the defense and to the team in general. Belichick commented that Mayo will be good a NFL player because he excelled in the SEC where he played against "the best players in the country".
Mayo led the SEC with 140 tackles, and eight times got ten tackles in a game. He is versatile and can play both inside and outside linebacker. He will add some youth to the Patriots defense which is now comprised of veterans Tedy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel and Junior Seau, if he returns.
