Ask Jennifer: College Loan Debt

Certified financial planner Jennifer Lane answers viewers' questions

With classes starting up again for colleges and universities, many are wondering about the best ways to pay for college and get out from under student loan debt.

Jennifer Lane, a certified financial planner with Compass Planning, answers NECN viewers' questions.

Jack in Weymouth asks: "How can I be sure I'm eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program? I graduated from law school 3 years ago and I've been working as an assistant district attorney for 2 years."

Susan in Pepperell writes: "My sister graduated two years ago with a ton of student loan debt. She's working but her rent is high so she is only making minimum loan payments. I start college next September. What can I do to minimize what I need to borrow?"

Stephanie in Boston asks "I didn't pay my student loans while I was working abroad and some loans have gone to collection. I'm trying to negotiate but getting nowhere. Is there a program to help me get back on track?"
