2 Dogs Found Dead; Wounds Consistent With Dogfighting, Gunshots

Police in Bridgewater, Mass. Located the animals in a wooded area on Sunday

Two dogs, with wounds consistent with dogfighting and gunshot wounds, were found dead in a wooded area of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, on Sunday.

Police were called to the Pine St. scene after a local resident, who was walking his dogs, discovered the dogs.

Bridgwater Police and the American Rescue League of Boston say the pit bulls were each shot twice in the head with a .22 caliber weapon. Both of the dogs' wounds are consistent with those of dog fighting, according to police.

Neighbor Pat Aiello said, "It's just awful. You just couldn't believe someone would do that to an animal."

Nighbor Richaie Daniels said, "It's conservationland over there and I walk with my dog pretty much all the time there. So it's a little disturbing to find that up there."

The bodies of the animals are now in the possession of the Animal Rescue League of Boston.

Bridgewater Police say there was a similar incident in a bordering town about a month ago. They are investigating to see if there is a connection.
