Bulger Attorneys Push for Delay in Trial

(NECN: Julie Loncich) - Monday morning there are new developments in the Whitey Bulger as the defense tries to delay the start of proceedings.

Just a few days into a daunting jury selection, days before what is arguably the most highly anticipated trial in Boston’s history, there is a possible delay.

Monday morning, Bulger’s defense team filed a motion saying they want to further conduct an investigation into what prosecutors knew about the alleged criminal activity of the government’s star witness, John Martorano.

According to the motions, defense attorneys claim there is evidence Martorano is being protected by law enforcement in exchange for his testimony, critical to the defense.

Opening statements were scheduled for Wednesday, but that could now change with the recent motion.
