(NECN: Nicole Jacobs, Newton, Mass.) - A home nestled on Emerson Street in Newton, Mass. with lots of lights is something of a tradition for the Hunter family.
There's Mary, Santa and a few snowmen, making a place on the lawn for 37 years now.
"My dad passed away two years ago, and that's the first year the lights went dark," said Kristen Hunter.
But the lights are on again, twinkling, shining and spreading all things related to Christmas joy - with one exception, says a letter they received in the mail.
"Tacky, tasteless, how would we like to have to drive by anti-Christian displays - just all kinds of weird stuff," said Kristen of the letter's allegations about her decorations.
But just days before Christmas, the community is backing the Hunter family with a message to the anonymous disgruntled author of the letter.
Dozens gathered, literally caroling through night, putting a stamp on the spirit of the holiday season.

"I think Christmas is great season, and a great time of year, and we all have differences, and different religions, and different opinions," said Mark Reardon.
It's enough to make Robert Hunter choke up and chuckle, all at the same time
"I think it's incredible," he said. "I think my father is beaming."
Just like the lights that he started decades ago, his family now has one hope for the anonymous neighbor.
"Bah, humbug," said Kristen. "Ebenezer Scrooge had a change of heart. Maybe they will too."
