BYOB Approved in Boston

The city of Boston's Licensing Board approved the measure on Thursday

Restaurant patrons will now be allowed to bring their own wine and beer to some Boston-area restaurants.

According to the City of Boston, the licensing board unanimously voted to amend the rules and regulations on Thursday.

Mayor Walsh released a statement after the vote and said, "I see this as an opportunity to bring increased economic activity to neighborhoods across Boston and I thank the Licensing Board for taking up this measure that has great potential to make a positive impact on our city's economic growth."

The board plans to draft rules that will regulate the BYOB measure and will schedule a public hearing where community members can voice their opinions on the idea.

Prior to the vote, regulations did not allow patrons to bring their own alcoholic beverages to restaurants.

The City Council passed the measure and Mayor Walsh signed an ordinance to consider the BYOB measure at the end of 2015.
