Police in Malden, Massachusetts, on Sunday responded to a Stop & Shop for a donation box that had been stolen.

Upon arrival at the supermarket on Charles Street, an officer met with a woman and her son. They said they were collecting donations for Cub Scouts of America, when a man grabbed the container from under her hand and fled on foot towards Applebee's.

The suspect is described as approximately 5'8", wearing a white T-shirt and black jeans with reddish hair and freckles.

Another witness on scene told police she saw the theft take place and followed the suspect in her vehicle. She said she saw the suspect change from his white T-shirt into a gray tank top. The witness says the man kept saying "times are hard" and kept on running. She eventually lost sight of him, but did take several pictures of the suspect with her cell phone camera.

Stop & Shop said the male party was seen on their surveillance enter the store after stealing the money and putting something in his shoe.

The woman and her son were able to collect the money ($161) that they had lost when customers realized someone had stolen it. Stop & Shop donated $150, as well.
