‘He's a Coward': Hit-and-Run Suspect Accused of Assaulting Officer

A man wanted by police for assaulting an officer and striking a pedestrian with his car in Woburn, Massachusetts, on Wednesday has been arrested.

A Woburn Police spokesman said that Tyson Delgado, 29, of Winthrop, was arrested in Boston on Thursday afternoon. Massachusetts State Police said he was arrested by their Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section on Wilcock Street in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood.

Investigators say Delgado was being interviewed by a police officer for a possible theft in North Woburn when he assaulted the officer and sped off in a white Chevy sedan.

The officer was not seriously hurt.

A short time later, police say Delgado's car struck 65-year-old Fred Pica of Woburn just as he was crossing the street in a crosswalk at the corner of Main and Union Streets.

Pica was able to return home on Wednesday night after being treated for a broken ankle, broken toe, and and bruises at Lahey Hospital.

"He's a coward," Pica said of Delgado. "A coward."

Delgado faces a litany of charges out of Woburn District Court, including assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a psrson over 65, negligent operation, leaving the scene of a crash causing injury, failure to stop, credit card fraud and larceny over $250.

Additionally, he is being charged out of Suffolk Superior Court with armed robbery.
