Long-time Vermont television newsman Marselis Parsons has died. He was 70.

Parsons' death was announced Wednesday in a story posted on the WCAX-TV website.

WCAX News Director Anson Tebbetts said Wednesday that Parsons died about 6 a.m. in Williston. He had been suffering from cancer.

The station reports that Parsons' first job was as a radio reporter in Hanover, New Hampshire. His first television job was in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He began working at WCAX in 1967.

Parsons, of Shelburne, worked at WCAX as a reporter, anchor and news director before his 2009 retirement.

In his last broadcast Parsons, known as "Div," told viewers it had been an honor for him to have been a guest in their homes.

    Tebbetts says arrangements are incomplete.
