A Portland, Maine, man was injured when his car flipped as he tried to evade police on Tuesday morning.

Maine State Police said the police chase began in Freeport when police there recognized Raymond Ireland behind the wheel of a car. Ireland, 33, was wanted on a number of charges, and the car he was driving was overdue from Enterprise Car Rental.

Freeport Police eventually broke off the chase, and state police later spotted the vehicle on the Maine Turnpike in Falmouth. They gave chase but also ultimately broke off their pursuit due to Ireland's erratic driving.

The car was later tracked down in the Gorham-Standish area, and state police and Cumberland County Sheriff's deputies picked up the chase along Route 35. The chase ended when deputies put out spike mats that deflated the car's tires and the car overturned on Woodrow Drive in Standish.

Ireland was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for non-life-threatening injuries.

State police said he will face multiple charges once he is released from the hospital.
