Man Charged in Fatal DUI Crash

A 20-year-old man has been charged in a DUI crash that killed his passenger early Saturday morning in Providence, Rhode Island.

Police say Hector Diaz of Providence showed signs of impairment and refused a Breathalyzer test after police responded to the crash just after 2:45 a.m. The minivan he was driving hit a light pole and rolled over.

A 23-year-old man in the back seat was ejected. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

That victim's name will not be released until next of kin is notified. Police confirmed that he was also a Providence resident.

Twenty-one-year-old Jennifer Gomez and 18-year-old Jasleen Gomez, both of the same address in Providence, were treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries.

Diaz is charged with DUI resulting in death, reckless driving resulting in death and driving to endanger. His bail was set at $500,000 and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
