Man Sentenced for Elderly Knifepoint Robbery

The man blamed his drug addiction

A Dalton, Massachusetts, man who jumped into the back of an elderly couple's car in a supermarket parking lot, held a knife to the woman's throat, and demanded money, has been sentenced to up to five years in prison.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that Shane Hamilton was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to several related charges.

Prosecutors say the 25-year-old Hamilton was wearing sunglasses and had a hood over his head when he waited for the couple in their 70s to load groceries into their car in broad daylight outside Price Chopper last March, and slipped into the back seat.

He fled when the male victim honked the horn. The man also got the license plate of the SUV in which the robber fled, leading to Hamilton.

Hamilton blamed his drug addiction.
