A group that wants presidential candidates to address campaign finance reform is gathering for a "walk for independence," and a reading of the Declaration of Independence in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, this July 4.

The reading of the 1776 document in Prescott Park will come at the end of the walks from Rochester and Hampton to Portsmouth.

The walks follow in the footsteps of Doris "Granny D" Haddock, who gained acclaim in 1999-2000 by walking 3,200 miles across the country to lobby for changes in the campaign finance system.

The reading of the Declaration will be done at 5 p.m. Saturday by former Democratic state Sen. Burt Cohen and former Republican state Rep. and Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Betty Tamposi.
