Vermont State Police say no one was injured when a train struck a vehicle in the town of South Royalton.
According to police, a vehicle was attempting to leave a residence on North Windsor Street Saturday night when it got stuck on the icy tracks. The north bound Amtrak train was travelling at 59 mph and had 71 passengers on board when it struck the car, tearing off the front of the vehicle and sending it in a rotation 20 feet down the track.
Both of the vehicle occupants, Allyssa Ashline of Randolph and Derek Noble of Royalton, were uninjured. The train was not damaged and continued to its destination after a brief delay.
State police are reminding drivers of the dangers of railroad crossings without gates.
