The Rhode Island Department of Health is investigating after 30 people reportedly became sick after eating at Wright's Farm Restaurant in Harrisville.

Approximately 30 people - including members of the Bryant University lacrosse team - became ill with gastrointestinal symptoms after eating at the popular restaurant on Saturday, according to WJAR-TV.

"Based on their symptoms, we believe it to be norovirus," health department spokesman Joseph Wendelken told the television station.

The restaurant has been around for more than 40 years, and is known for its family style chicken dinners, according to its websites. It also hosts banquets, receptions and has its own food products and gift shop.

Frank Galleshaw, the owner of Wright's Farm Restaurant, released a statement, noting, "On Sunday, March 13th a sick child became physically ill inside the restaurant. Customers in the child's immediate area have come forward to report similar symptoms. We are working diligently with the RI Department of Health to pinpoint the cause of the resulting sickness. While reports have not come back yet, early indications are that the reported illness is the result of the norovirus, which is highly contagious and easily spread through aerosol transmission. This appears to be an isolated incident and we have been allowed to stay open while health officials work to determine the cause.
