President Barack Obama is expected to attend a fundraising event in Newport as part of a Northeast trip at the end of August.
A White House spokesman tells The Providence Journal and WJAR-TV on Thursday that the president will travel to Newport and the Westchester, New York, area on Aug. 29 to raise money for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The statement said further details would be announced later.
Obama and his family are scheduled for a vacation on the Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard from Aug. 9 to Aug. 24.
