Pedestrians Struck, Injured in Separate Crashes

Police confirm two pedestrian crashes on Route 28 southbound in Somerville, Massachusetts. One suffered life-threatening injuries.

Two pedestrians were struck by cars Wednesday evening in Somerville, Massachusetts, police confirmed.

A 29-year-old female victim suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash, which took place after 5:30 p.m. on the southbound side of Route 28, at Assembly Square. She was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital and is in critical condition.

Just 200 yards away, a 20-year-old male victim was struck at 6:50 p.m. He suffered serious injuries and was also taken to Massachusetts General.

The first victim was struck by 24-year-old Kaleigh Fitzgerald of Hanover. The second was hit by 21-year-old Jason Cormier of Chelmsford. No charges have been filed against either driver.

The names of both victims have been withheld until family could be notified.

Roads all over New England were impacted by the winter storm, which resulted in many crashes in the region.

Earlier in the day, Assembly Square was the site of another crash. State police reported just after 3 p.m. that minor injuries were sustained in the crash on Route 28 northbound.
