Young Girl Critically Injured After Being Hit by Car at Bus Stop

A young girl is in critical condition after she was hit by a car after getting off the bus in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Thursday.

Around 3:22 p.m., a Lowell Regional Transit Authority bus stopped on Wood Street at a designated bus stop to let the girl exit. She exited teh bus and began to cross the street in front of hte bus.

Witnesses told police a vehicle two cars behind the bus, traveling in the same direction, then crossed the center lines of the roadway, passing the vehicle stopped behind the bus and the bus itself, striking the girl. The vehicle then continued on, striking the girl a second time and then sideswiping two vehicles that were stopped in the opposite lane. The vehicle then hit a third vehicle head-on, pushing it into a fourth vehicle. Five vehicles in all were involved in the accident.

The young girl, whose name has not been released, was transported to Lowell General Hospital and then taken by medical helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where she is in extremely critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the teen, Fatmata Jalloh, 54, of Lowell, taken to a local hospital for minor injuries and released. The driver of the vehicle that was struck head on also suffered minor injuries.

Jalloh's license has been revoked, and police said she could face charges once the investigation and reconstruction are completed.
