Police Investigating Suspicious Death in Winchester, Massachusetts

Authorities say the body of an elderly woman was found

The suspicious death of an elderly woman is being investigated in Winchester, Massachusetts, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office.

Winchester Police would only say they conducted a "well-being" check at the woman's home on Swanton Street at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Neighbors of the elderly woman say her body was found in her condo on the first floor of the Parkview Condominiums, which was crawling with police Tuesday morning.

"They were going through the dumpster. What they were looking for, I have no idea," said one neighbor.

Another said, "I want to know more about it."

To ease fears, the Winchester Police Department said they don't believe the woman's death is a random act.

One neighbor said the elderly woman would often be seen in her motorized scooter. Others said she may have been dead for some time because of a bad and potent smell emanating from the first floor. Another resident says police were going door to door asking them basic questions.

"Basically I woke up and an officer asked me a few questions," said resident Fernando Monroy, who lives just a few doors down from the woman.

Police say it's an active ongoing investigation.
