Police: Road Work Sign Goes Through Windshield of Distracted Driver's Car

State police in Massachusetts are using a close call for one driver as a warning to others to heed posted speed restrictions and to pay attention on the road.

Authorities say an 18-year-old Rhode Island man wasn't paying attention to the traffic on Route 495 in Wrentham that was slowing down due to a construction project, and lost control when he finally realized that traffic was stopped because of a lane merge, hitting a road work sign.

The impact of the crash brought the sign down through the man's windshield, hitting him in the head.

The man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with a head laceration. It's unclear if he faces any charges.

State police say it's the responsibility of the driver to pay attention while driving and to be aware of the traffic situation.
