Red Sox Fans Processing Changes to Roster

Boston Red Sox took on their rivals, the New York Yankees, Friday night

Fans are still processing the changes to the Boston Red Sox roster as their team took on the rival Yankees Friday.

"C-e-s-p-e-d-e-s," spelled 12-year-old Sox fan Tommy Donahue, of Norfolk, Massachusetts.

"I love the Cespedes trade, I think it's really good for the Red Sox. He's a power hitter, he's good in the field. I like all around players," 8-year-old Sox fan Matthew Flaherty of Belmont said.

The kids know what they're doing, and so do the merchandisers, since it didn't take long for the new look Sox to show up at Fenway Park.

With Jon Lester, John Lackey, Jake Peavy, and Felix Doubront all gonzo, Red Sox fans turned to a rookie to get it done on the mound.

"There's like no rotation now," Donahue said.

Just more than 24 hours after the team's ace was moved to Oakland, California, there's still a lot of why no more Lester festering inside Fenway.

"That whole Lester thing, I don't know," said Sox fan Dave Medeiros of New Bedford said.

Some aren't writing off his return in 2015.

"It's possible he'll return as a free agent. I'm still keeping out hope," said Sox fan Glenn Fournier, who was at the game from Virginia.

Fans say it was kinda weird to have Stephen Drew at second base for the first time in his career switching to the visitors locker room and suiting up for the Yankees.

Sox fan Jen Medeiros didn't like seeing Jacoby Ellsbury with the Yankees, but Stephen Drew?

"That's ok," she said.

But there's still some familiar names here and some legends, such as Dwight Evans, around to remind Sox fans that everything will be okay.

Yoenis Cespedes didn't start Friday in right field, but he has a Dewey-like cannon for an arm. Sox fans will get to see it soon enough.
